Tip: Dive into the work of the miner at the Ridnaun Schneeberg Mining World.
The village centres all along the Brenner Pass route still bear witness to the former wealth that mining brought to the region. Mining documentation from as early as the 13th century exists. The Pflerschtal acquired the epithet “silver valley” whereby, alongside silver, mainly mineral ores were extracted. Following the discovery of America, mining saw a decline and was, to a large extent, discontinued in the course of the modern era. Only on the Schneeberg in Ridnaun did production continue until the 1980’s.
