Tip: The Holy Ghost Hospital Church in the Town Square of Sterzing and the Town Hall
Pilgrims, emperors, travellers, smugglers and sinister villains – many reasons and ways have lead them through the Brenner region. The Romans founded a strategic fortification with the fortress Vipitenum. The three different hospices of Vipiteno testify the central importance of the Brenner route, as well as the pilgrim on the emblem of the city of Vipiteno. The emperors crossed the pass on their way to the coronation in Rome, the pilgrims stopped on their way to Rome or Jerusalem and rat lines passed accross the mountain borderline after World War II.
