The Sanctuary of Maria Trens has attracted countless people from near and far for centuries. The church is a real gem. The start date of the pilgrimage to Maria Trens in South Tyrol is not proven. In 1345 a permit to build a church dedicated to Mary was given in Avignon. 100 years later Maria Trens enjoyed great popularity as a pilgrimage destination. In the 15th century the church was enlarged in late Gothic style. 300 years later it was frescoed in Baroque style by the Viennese painter Adam Mölck. The paintings mainly show scenes from the life of Mary of Nazareth.
