Theme: The railway across the Brenner
Tip: The railway of the past and present day at the BBT-Info Center in Franzensfeste and Steinach
The first steam locomotive travelled across the Brenner Pass in 1867 and changed daily life considerably. Alpinism and genteel tourism began. The Brenner railway line was a technological masterpiece. For the first time, spiral tunnels were used to negotiate the 800 metres in altitude between Innsbruck and Brenner. Today, engineers are already working on the next centennial project: the Brenner Base Tunnel.
