Pilgrimages along the Brenner route
Gaze in amazement at the shrines of Maria Trens and Maria Waldrast
There are two renowned pilgrimage sites along the old Brenner route. In the 15th century, thousands of pilgrims already followed the calling of the “Trenser Mutter” and Maria Waldrast attracted approximately 40.000 pilgrims a year in the 18th century. How many of those seeking help with their fears and anxieties have called on the two gracious mothers can only be surmised. The many pilgrims who continue to visit both shrines every year to this very day are evidence of the vitality of the pilgrimage.
